Yeah, I thought these aftermarket mirrors were a plug and play kinda thing. Guess not. I have the powred wiring native to the truck although mine came with the non powered towing mirrors standard. I was going to source the heater switch and hvac plate from another vehicle as well. I wonder if that wiring is already in the truck or I'll have to figure out something else for that as well. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew.

ESorensen,

I didn't do the aftermarket...I did the hybrid 2nd gen/3rd gen mirror mix, but my 02 SLT had wiring in place for the mirror in the doors and had wiring in the HVAC controls for the heater switch. I could have wired a switch, but I wanted factory look, so I bought the HVAC controller w/ the heater sw buit in. About $80 at the dealer.

i think my joystick controller is bad. I'll eventually purchase the hvac front with the heated switch for the mirrors as well. i believe the wiring for the heated portion is already in the dash as well.

I'll add this link for those that are new to this thread. I've put this web page together which covers using the Kool-Vue heated towing mirrors on all of the '94 - '06 Rams. It has a summary of information from many posts from several mirror threads, and shows how to wire the '94 - '97 trucks.

Dodge Ram - Towing Mirror Upgrade Information- '94 to '06

This talks about getting the reinforcement brackets from Dodge although I see that places like Fenderworld now source them.

Sometimes it is a struggle to just get the right parts. First I couldn't get any mirrors, now I have 2 sets of them!

I will make someone a great deal on a set of these. Make me an offer, the wife wants to know why there are 2 sets in the shop, and just 1 truck

If anyone has their old set that was removed, I might be interestd in taking them off your hands if you want to get rid of them. I'm looking for the flip-out towing mirrors.

Has anyone else purchased theirs from the speedyautoparts.com site? At $106 each from them it seems like the best deal on these mirrors. I've got the power / heated standard (non-towing) mirrors on my 99 and hoping that it should be just a quick bolt on and plug in install for me. The glass in both of my mirrors is cracked now and I'm thinking of going up to the towing mirrors instead of just replacing the glass in mine. I'm sure I'll need the plates for them as my mirrors now are the regular mirrors and not the towing ones.

Mainly just wanting to know if anyone has had good luck buying them from speedyautoparts.com?

They seem to be the correct mirrors from Kool Vue. Speedy Car Parts - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - and Speedy Car Parts - Auto Parts and Accessories Catalog - You have to search for it as a 1500 on there to see both the driver's and passenger side mirrors. It should be the same mirror though for our trucks. They have the power/heated towing mirrors there for $106.40 and the manual towing mirrors for $67.95.

The site is actually Speedy Car Parts - Audi parts BMW parts Honda parts Ford parts Chevy parts Dodge parts GMC parts Jaguar parts Mercedes parts Nissan parts Porsche parts Land Rover parts Saab parts Toyota parts Volvo parts Volkswagen parts VW parts I found it from a post earlier in this thread.

I was mainly wondering if anyone has bought from this site before making sure its a good place because that is a great price and they seem to be the correct mirrors.

Ordered a set from fenderworld a week ago. They charged my credit card but have not heard a word from them since. You can get one side or the other or as a set as I did and they also have the reinforcement plates, that is if you can get them to ship to you.

I went through this mess back in February! Go back a few pages to my post #107. Same story, I finally gave up when I got all my money refunded.
