paking brake adjustment

Just out of curiosity, how do you all adjust your parking brakes? I have 4 wheel discs with the drum parking brakes and am replacing the shoes today. I just wanted to know what your thoughts. What I have been doing is spinning the tire and adjusting out until it stops. It has worked for me but I think it wears shoes out too fast.
