Interesting Underhood Temp Data
I have been trying to find a source of cool air for underhood without cutting big hole in firewall. I decided to find out what temps I was dealing with first. I attached a temp probe to the airfilter ,(BHAF) about 1/2 way up the side and to the firewall end on the side about 12 - 14 inches from the turbo housing. I have had it in about a week and with out side temps anywhere from 40-70 degrees the under hood temps have stayed around 10 deg hotter than out side as long as there was air flow from truck movement. This was done with out a fan as it has been removed. IT has been as high as 15 deg higher and as low as 6 deg higher than outside temps. A hard full throttle run to 100mph made no difference in readings. A 100 mile trip on interstates nonstop made no difference. Havnt towed anything and prolly wont for a while.
I think underhood temps at least in the winter are not a problem.
