heater core

I am pretty sure my heater core is leaking since it fills the cab with antifreeze smell and steams windows when running. Dealer wants $800.00 to change it out. I bought a manual on the pickup and it says to remove the dash assembly. Any one ever do this with out disasembling the entire truck. I mean from the pictures it looks like they started in at the tail pipe and came out at the license plate frame taking this poor truck apart. I've put in several core ant they usually weren't that big of a deal. Discharging the air is no problem since I have the equip.
