Cool 1st Oil Change On My 2001...

Well guys,

Since I have 5,500 on the odometer, I figured I had better do an oil change. So I head to Cummins, picked up all the necessary goodies and head home to start the fun.

So I crank up the Metallica on my shop radio AND my truck stereo and get to work. I drained the oil with no problem, as I was expecting an over-torqued drain plug. Piece of cake. Then I get to the oil filter...

I expected it to be tight from the factory, but this thing must have been put on there with an air gun with a filter attachment, and toqued to AT LEAST half a million ft-lb!!! For 30 minutes, I tried to muscle that bastard offa there, but to no avail. My oil filter wrenches were all too small, so I said "screw this" and decided to get out the big guns. So I march into my shop mumbling various things, most of which included "DC" and "%$#* @#%$!!!" I grab my 18" pipe wrench, and head back out to the garage. I open the thing up wide, then tighten the jaws on the filter, and PRESTO, it came off as smooth as can be...

So I put on a new filter, filled with the finest Cummins Premium Blue 15W-40, then I filled the crankcase with 10 quarts of too good stuff. Checked the dipstick, and the oil level was right in the middle of the "SAFE" mark.

So other than the oil filter that was put on by Arnold Shwarzenegger, the oil change went great!
