What's wrong with my Thermometer in the trip computer??

Noticed yesterday that the thermometer in the trip computer seems to think that the current temps in the Pacific NW are from -5 to +5. It isn't stuck on one temp so it sits there and fluctuate between temps. What could cause this? Won't take it to the dealer so I need to get it fixed. Please help!
