Growling PS Pump

I have a growling PS pump, whats up with it? It seems to work fine about 98%of time. The other 2% the steering seems to lose some of the power assist. This is a stock truck with stock '01 w/42000miles. Dealer told me it was fine but should I be concerned for warranty issues?
