Truck for sale - questions

Is my truck just not worth that much or what?

01 quad cab long bed 2wd with H.O. & 6 spd. It has 136000 miles and a small dent in the drivers side rear door from where a pony backed in to it. I only need $12,700 to pay it off but the dealer says I am still upside down on it and really low balled me on the trade in price because of the miles and the dent.

Now I have seen similar trucks to mine sell with more body abuse for $15,000 QUICKLY, so what gives, is selling used vehicles that profitable?
I mean if they gave me $12,700 for it, spent $500 to fix the door they could sell it at a sticker of $17,000 and if they sell it for $15,500 they would still make $2300 which is 17.5%! If they got the $17,000 that is $3800 and almost 30%!!!!

What is the deal with dealers? I guess I am just going to have to sell it on my own. Anyone want a truck, CHEAP?
