so the day after I bought my truck, I went down to my buddy's lead supply and got some .040" lead sheet from him...
today I FINALLY laid down a layer on the back wall of the cab... I also filled the hollow section just below the rear window with Great Stuff expanding foam.
I had developed an EAR SPLITTING resonance at 2500rpm that started getting worse and worse from ~2200 on up to 2500 where it would literally HURT your eardrums... this came about when I removed the stacks (which were fairly painful themselves, but not as bad) and installed 4" straight pipe back to where the cab meets the bed and then 5" back over the axle and out the passenger side. it was so bad that I actually installed the muffler (more of a big resonator) that came with the City Muffler 5" system I bought.
the resonator made the 2500rpm resonance livable... still uncomfortable, mind you... but livable...
well, the single layer of .040" lead sheet on the back wall of the cab and the foam fill in the hollow section has made the truck darn near COMFORTABLE!!
I'm going to pull the seat and the floor mat and lay lead sheet on the entire floor and then another layer or two on the back of the cab. then I'm sure I'll have to focus on the firewall because it's already more noticable now that the resonance is calmed down! LOL! I would also like to lay some foam of some sort down on the back wall.
my eventual goal is to make the exhaust note a little more agressive but still be comfortable in the cab... if not straight pipe maybe a smaller bullet style resonator right after the downpipe.
if anyone in/around the DFW area would like some lead sheet, let me know... it's too heavy to ship and still be worth shipping, but I can meet up with you and hook you up for a minimal fee (enough for a little fuel as my buddy's lead supply shop is a bit out of my way)
