Which 6-speed do I have...NV5600 or G56?

I've noticed the question of "which 6-speed do I have" has come up fairly frequently. The following information will help a new owner to determine which manual transmission his/her truck has in it.

Here is a set of pictures of the transmissions, one each from under the truck passenger side and driver side as well as a picture of the shifter knob.
