Thieves Using Keyless Entry

I heard that thieves ride around parking lots with a device that transmits remote door unlock codes. When they see your lights flash, they remove any valuables from your truck and are gone in seconds. Is this true? Does anyone know anything about this? I programed my keyless lock/unlock NOT to honk the horn or flash the lights.
