Really slow fuel gauge

On a normal fuel stop and I fill the tank the gauge moves as fast as a second hand on a clock ticking the seconds away. Yesterday I put in $20 about 8 gallons

The gauge would not move for about 4min. When it started to move it moved so slow that you swore it was not moving.
Is this normal? Was the 8 gallons not enough for the gauge to move fast? Does my gauge move to slow on a normal day???
