To change or not to change

Have a 2005, 2500 SB, auto, QC. So far I have only towed with it twice and my trailer only comes in at 5500 lbs. The truck has 12k on it now and only about 2k of that was towing. I did however tow initially with only 400 miles on the truck, before the recommended 500 miles before the rear end breaks in. Based on doing this should I change the axle fluid at 15k, or is this such light duty use that you would wait. Also when you chage the fluid since this is my first truck without a drain plug do you guys just pull the cover off, or suck the fluid out? Which is easier?
