Power Steering Gear Box

I have an 03 3500 4WD with a leaking power steering issue. I have been told the lines are good, the pump is dry but it appears to be from the PS gear box. 1. Has anyone had an issue with a PS Gear Box? 2. Is it hard to replace yourself? Quoted $600.00 to do the job.
