06 Dash Rattle via Auto Dipstick tube
I had a passenger side dash rattle in my 06 Automatic while idling in gear. Glovebox was shaking. Very annoying in a new truck. I read in one post that it was the Auto trans dipstick tube. I left the truck idling in D while pointing uphill against a curb for safety, set the park brake and popped the hood. The dipstick tube was shaking so much it was a blur..........it was also beating metal to metal against the air conditioning system liquid line trying to beat a hole in it, not good! This transmitted the noise directly into the in dash AC evaporator coil. I checked the dipstick tube mounts, all intact, nothing loose or broken. I appears the tube is just too long and wimpy to withstand the beat of the mighty Cummins.
Solution: I wrapped a piece of hose around the dipstick tube then zip tyed the AC line and dipstick together, just let'em hug each other. No more buzz, vibe, just sweet diesel noise. Hope this helps someone else out there.
Anyone heard of the official DC fix for this one?
