Can't see screen on 2008 nav system

I've got a 2008 with the [REC] nav system [an Alpine unit], and when I'm entering information during the day it's almost impossible to identify the high-lighted character so that I know what I'm entering.

It's not a case of adjusting the contrast intensity, it's a problem of being able to differentiate the selected character from the one next to it...or any other one for that matter.

Since the unit has color screen capability, I can't understand how this could have passed the approval process with such a significant design flaw.

When I went back to ask the dealer about not being able to see the screen, they saw what I was talking about, but had no solution....and apparantly since Dodge quit using the Alpine system in mid-to-late Jan. 08, Alpine has no more interest in trying to work with users of that system to correct any problems.

Hopefully, I'm just doing something wrong or haven't adjusted something correctly, but if that's the case, I don't know what I've done wrong.

Has anyone out there got a resolution to this problem or am I the only one that can't see what I'm doing?
