04 or 04.5 ????

My friend just bought a used truck and has not taken delivery of it yet. We are trying to decide if it is an 04 or 04.5 so we know what chips to put on it. Here is the VIN 3D7K428C04G128916. I know the vin says it is 2004, but what does that really mean? Would they say 2005 on the VIN and you bought it in 2004 for it to be a 04.5? How do you tell? Thanks for your help.
