CoolDown timers

I have a 2009 3500.

I just bought a cool down timer made by BD & in the process of hooking it up I had a question about one wire in the procedure. So I called BD tech, & was told they didn't have a cool down timer tested or made for my truck. Looking at the model years the timer goes only to 2007. All the hook up wiring is as per instructions until I got to the ECM wire hook up, showing my ignorance, what is "ECM"(electronic control moduel?) & were is it located? Anyone have any ideas or would any here think if I finished the hook-up, that it would fry the truck electronics?
