Can't download Smarty update

Last month the computer on my truck died. After 5 weeks I got my truck back from the dealer. When I went to load my Smarty it won't load. I get an unknown software message. I emailed Mads Electronics and they tell me to download the new program. I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person but I have spent the entire afternoon trying to do this and I can't. I have gone on various forums and the Mads website and have tried to do what they tell me and it still won't work. I have made the smarty folder downloaded the 7-zip program and installed the files into it. Still nothing. When I plug in my smarty they tell me I should get a new found software screen but I don't get it and I can't get anything else to work. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong so I can get my truck back to normal?
