shift indictor not working!!!!

hi, guys my brother has an o3 cummins ram and the indicator below the dash clocks that tells you if your in D=DRIVE-N=NEUTRAL-R=REVERSE ETC... is not working, the trans is working fine and its not a problem for him but his wife has been reving the hell out off the cummins cause its in 2nd gear and she cant tell ha ha ha ha anyone know whats wrong here? thanks
