Rear Axle Hop

My 2500 4X4 quadcab long bed is a miserable ride unloaded on unpaved/gravel roads with a "washboard" surface. It is all over the road at speeds over about 5 mph, which is embarassing, as well as annoying. Has anyone else had this problem? Is the solution just to carry a few bags of sand in the back??
