7 pin trailer wire conector

I have the factory installed 7 pin conector on the rear of my truck. I have been looking to place on in the bed for my goose neck I will be buying. Anybody just made a harness you can run over the tailgate or am I better off just splicing in and mounting one on the bed. I pull a bummper pull 3 horse trailer and a 12,000 lb equitment trailer more than anything else.
