Research on EGTs?

The EGT topic has been heavily discussed, but I am in search of information that smacks of systematic research.

For instance, I know that one reliable source held his truck at 1500* degrees on his truck on a dyno for 10 minutes. Something broke at that point, but it was not the motor or the turbo.

I have heard others say that Cummin puts these engines under some rigorous testing at high EGTs for prolonged periods.

I understand the need to watch EGTs carefully when you are towing, but I am not sure whether brief forays into high EGTs on the street are harmful...that is part of my question.

I have a PowerMaxCR with AFE and stock everything else. I hit 1850* on the Xway in 7/7 at about 90 MPH while accelerating. It stayed at that temperature for about 1 second then when I let off it was down to 700* immediately. In pulls and at the strip, competitors hit 2000* degrees for a few seconds without any problems.

An uneducated perspective (mine) is that hitting any temperature for one or two seconds is not harmful.

Does anyone have any reliable information about the testing that Cummin does on EGTs?
