Step up to the plate

Well I did it. I traded in my 1998.5 1 ton ext cab on a left over 2004 2500 4x4 california engine with a 48re and a 9000 GVW, sweet truck>

It doesn't have the HO motor in it

. I'd like to step up the HP a bit like my 1998.5 with a diesel dynamics black box and other small mods but I'm not familiar with this 3rd gen engine. Do I need to wait a 1000 miles or so before I do this ???? Hmmm I'm not sure that why I'm asking.
