48RE Trans. upgrade question
I bought my 2004.5 CTD 600 new and after 1,000 miles took a 12,000 mile trip to Alaska pulling a 5er, GCWR of 22,000 lbs.. The trans got hot once using first gear for short spurts while braking. I now have 16,000 miles and want to upgrade tranny to either a ATS Stage III (TC & VB) or Stage V (new tranny with all goodies), so I can add an e-brake. I pulled the trans. pan to check accumulated metal on the magnet and noticed about 1/8" to 3/16", there was just a trace in the pan, next to the magnet.
Do you think this amount of metal would justify buying a new tranny (ATS Stage V)?
Thanks
