Thought I was done fer

Filled up the truck Saturday morning before departing on a 200 mile trip, same station that has fueled my last 20,000 miles. Started the truck up at the station and heard the worst engine idle I've ever heard in my life. The motor could barely even keep itself running. Knowing that there was no possibility that the fuel I just pumped in could have reached the motor, I still bailed out of the truck and hit the fuel bowl dump (even though the water light didn't light) and of course - nothing happened, still rough idle.

Fortunately my house is about 1 mile down the road from the station, so I limped the truck home, knowing that my injector pump or t-fer pump was done in. I called the dealership in town who told me that they fired their diesel mechanic the previous day, and couldn't check the pumps till Monday or Tuesday.

I got to poking around under the hood and found that the rail pressure sensor harness had come unplugged from the Predator box, and was just sitting there rattling around in the port. I yanked the boxes off the motor, hit the starter, and the motor idled fine.

I whipped on up the the dealership, told them about the loose connector, they scanned my truck and I got a "yep that was it". After clearing the codes that the motor had thrown, I was climbing back in the truck, and the service manager said "you know, I don't know how that connector would rattle loose, I've never seen that before." I replied "Jee, I don't know, I've never touched any of those connectors before." and promptley got the heck out of there before I divulged the presence of a pressure box that was on the truck 15 minutes ago.

So, no harm done, other than some ribbing about me driving a Dodge from my future father-in-law, a PSD man, before I discovered the problem.
