ck engine light on

My buddies check engine light came on after he turned up his EDGE box to five and was messing around with a Camero. Come to find out his air filter restrictor was tripped, he reset it and the light went out, is this a case of the improper restrictor indicator being installed as I read a few months ago in TDR magazine? anyone else experiencing this with aftermarket boxes? he never had it do it till he turned up the box and was sitting at the light building up some boost, took off, smoked the car and then noticed the light was on. His trk is a 2004 with a auto. Just curious, not asking for him, for me, I am still trying to get him to join, maybe he will read this post and join instead of just lurking,lol
