program reset procedure on 05 cummins

A friend just told me about a procedure that the techs use on 05 trucks. we tried it on my 06 and it did not work. He and 3 other guys he works with have done this just recently and it worked on their 05's, but just did a few days ago so no reports on how well it works.

Go to your overhead (key on but not running), go to the ODO setting. Do a reset (press reset twice), cycle the key three times, on the 3rd cycle leave key on, odometer will change and when the process is done it will show finished or done (not sure which as it did not work on my 06) This is supposed to reset the programming and give higher mpg and more power.

Has anyone ever heard of this or is it just a reset procedure for something else??? Could possibly be of use or just smoke and mirrors but i was willing to give it a try just did not work on my 06.
