Air Filter Questions? Help

I just bought a 2006 dodge 3500 4x4 QC 6 speed with CTD. I wanted to know what air filter is better one made by volant, afe, K&N, or stock. I see that a lot of people dont like the oiled Gauze filter, and say they dont filter as well as paper. Is this true? What about the filter raps that you put around the AFE,Volant,and the K&N. Do these make them more efficient? My wife purchased the Violant for me as a suprise, but I dont want to install it if there is going to be question as to its filtering ability. I will send It back and stay stock.
