Idle surge is back

After a month thinking the problem was gone, its back again. Engine makes a "pinging " type noise and tries to stall, actually did, but may have been because I was taking off and did'nt give it enough go pedal. What do you guys think? I may try the modded relief valve trick and see if that changes anything, my thinking being maybe its popping open and dropping pressure in the rail, make sense?
