2003 died several times on cold start

ok, I know it's a diesel and rough idle is common but mine had a real hard time getting started the other day. I normally plug it in when it's below 50 just to make it easier on the engine but I forgot the night before this time. It turned over fine and started but then had very rough idle and died about 6 times before I could even get out of the driveway. Then it died once more while driving down the street before it finally cleared up. It starts perfect when I have it plugged in. I also use PS white bottle in the winter and the fuel filter only has about 1000 miles on it. No codes either & it has an in-tank lift pump.

The only other time it's had a hard time like this was a month ago after a long haul with the 5th wheel it ran terrible till I drained the fuel canister and cleaned and changed the fuel filter.

Any ideas?
