Updated my Smarty Jr to PoD

After reading that Marco had come up with a way to update my Smarty Jr to Power on Demand I thought, yea, that’s something I want to do.

I printed and read the different instructions: SmartyJRPUserGuide.pdf & Disclaimer.pdf & installationguide.pdf . Next I created a folder named “Smarty PoD” and down loaded: SJRPV508ADR14S.7z & Smarty USB.exe into it. I clicked on the SJRPV508ADR14S file and it did not offer to run or unzip which surprised me a little since other files I download unzip without trouble. A little perturbed I searched on unzip utilities and downloaded one. That was the ticket; I unzipped the 3498 kb SJRPV508ADR14S.7z file into a 6935 kb SJRPV508ADR14S.Smt file.

I turned my wireless off so I was disconnected from the internet and connected my Smart with a USB cable. I expected to see a “New Device Found” but it did not happen so I clicked on “Computer” expecting to see the device listed as drive” E” or some such but that did not happen so I clicked on the Smarty USB file in my folder and it ran the program to upload the .Smt file into my Smarty Jr. I got a messages saying Smarty memory was being erased and another that the new program was being uploaded; in about 10 minutes the whole thing was done. I took the instructions out to my truck and began the upload of the new PoD program which went just as the instructions suggested.

My initial impressions are that this is an amazing improvement of Smarty. I am not after big horses and macho torque; I really just want better MPGs with a drivable truck. Before the PoD upgrade I got the best improvement in MPG and reduction EGT on SW 2 (tow) so that’s where I started, I backed the PoD off to in stages to 35 which caused initial throttle response to be soft but when it shifts into 2nt the kick-in-the-pants feeling returned. Now I will play around to see what I can get PoD to do for me.
Thanks Bob Wagner for your awesome product support and thanks Marco for your hard work on the software & firmware. You two are great guys.
