Are the 6-speeds louder than auto

Hello all,
Just picked up my 2003 3500 Quad Cab shortbed 4x4 Laramie with HO/6-speed the other day and it is AWESOME! Much better than my 2001. However I have a few questions regarding trans. noise and vibrations on the floor.

1. When I test drove a 2500 HO/6-speed, the trans seemed pretty quite from inside the truck, but the truck I bought seems kind of loud on the inside of the truck when I'm running down the road over 40 MPH. Is this normal? Aside from the hole in the floor for the shifter, is there less sound insulation on the floor of the manual equiped trucks when compared to the autos? Will adding more insulation help? Could this be caused by low gear oil in the trans. or the clutch/bearing issues others have been posting?

2. There seems to be a lot of vibrations you can feel through the pedals and through the floor. Again, is this normal? If not, what could be cause and what can be done to correct it?

If it's all normal, then I'll just have to get used to it. If not, I'd like to get these things addressed ASAP.
