Will a straight pipe hurt performance?

This is my first diesel truck ( had a 00 Dakota RT, supercharged) and I don't know too much about it. Will I hurt performance or the truck by taking off the muffler and putting a straight pipe in. I want it to sound like a truck. Thanks...
