exhaust brake 07.5

my new truck is in, 07.5 std cab 4x4. didnt pick it up yet though, in a dispute over trade in. i have a 06 std cab with 3400 miles they only want to give me 22,000. sorry for getting off the subject, anyway drove the new truck its pretty nice. ive had five ctd but no exhaust brake, when i was letting truck warm up i pushed the brake button and could hear it while in park then took off with brake button on and could hear it. when coming up to a stop light it did a nice job slowing me down but when completly stopped could still hear brake, then when took off could not hear it. then turned it off and when letting off the trottle coming up to a light thr truck slowed right down as if brake was on but it wasnt. does the new motor automatically brake like that? with the exaust brake off. also when i got back to dealer and put it in park, then pushed button i could not hear it like i could when letting .it warm up earlier. does this all sound normal would like to know before i take delivery thanks
