For G56 Owners--start in 3rd?

I tried a couple of 3rd gear starts and it eliminates that awkward 2nd to 3rd upshift in the middle of a turn...makes running with traffic a lot easier. There no shuddering or lugging and the truck doesn't seem to mind.

Am I tearing up the clutch or drastically shortening its life doing this if I only do it unloaded on level or downhill streets?

Has anyone tried a short throw shifter kit for this truck? How well did it work?
