Just found out today that I am having same issue as you have. Dealer ordering new Turbo and DPF. 27,700k on the vehicle. Truck was behaving just like the description of your issue. Wondering as to what will be happening after warranty is out on these trucks.

Update

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

dealer called today and said truck was ready and running right . they replaced the butterfly in the egr , replaced the dpf and drilled and cleaned the turbo . does the cleaning really work ? should i do a dpf/egr delete now or is the turbo going to stop up again and have to be replaced ?

I suppose that answer to your question lies within. Are you ready to wipe out your warranty from the day you remove it?

got my truck back yesterday and so far so good . i drove some yesterday and have driven it quite a bit today and so far it runs like new . they found the egr was stuck closed , the dpf was cracked and they did the drill and clean on the turbo . the truck has plenty of power and driving through the mountains today i averaged around 15 mpg . i just hope it lasts . i picked the truck up at closing time and as i walked out , the service manager and the diesel mechanic walked out with me . they were talking about how many turbos that had been cleaned and were growing tired of so many of them . they both said that if i had any more trouble out of mine to delete the crap and hang on to the parts so they could be put back on in case of trouble . on the brighter side , they said they really haven't seen many other issues with our trucks other than the emissions crap .

Thumbs up

Well third week and no replacement parts (cat or dpf) available. Installed the delete kit, last weekend couldn't have my truck hung up for another two weeks. I get 20.5 miles per gallon, reduced egt's 200*, spools faster, more HP seat of pants, runs better then my 5.9. I don't care if the dealer ever calls me back. Not going back now, and will never replace the parts. I'm not about to have my truck spend it's warranty days in a dealership waiting for a turbo cleaning, replacement turbo, dpf, cat or egr replacement parts ever again.

And another thing, it is a peace of mind, not having to worry about the "ding" going off all the time, worry about the percentage of dpf, going into re-gen, or traveling far whether you'll make it or not. Now all you do is check the outside temp, and smile at fuel gauage. That's the way it should be.

HeberRam, you're right, dealership service is a joke. Please keep us informed as to how everything is working out with the DPF and EGR delete.

coalsmoke, don't know what else to say. I did the stealth method. Installed the block off plates in the egr valve, took out the flapper in the intake horn, blocked off the egr tube with a 1-1/8" rubber plug, cleaned everything up with carberator cleaner before putting back together. ( you can't imagine how much soot is trapped in these engines). Installed H & S cat, dfp delete kit, and everything took me 1-1/2 hrs. Oh, instead of leaving the plug off to the egr valve, I cut in half way down the wire loom and pluged it back in. If you open the hood you can't tell a thing is different from stock. With the Edge Additude set at clear codes on start-up, the check engine light never comes on. The only code I get if I don't clear it is " egr circut is low"....daaaaaaaaa wonder why, I cut the wire. The truck does not smoke running on stock to level #4. Only when you nail it on level #5 or #6 (hot). I live at 5700' elevation with no issues. I have put over 1500 miles since the delete and have averaged 20.5 miles per gallon. That's a combination of hard driving, up hills, down hills, flat roads, 75-85 MPH. Before 13-15mph tops. Pulling my 5th wheel 9.5-10. Haven't pull yet with the new set-up. Egt's 200* less on average, cruise around 725-750*, no re-gen, engine temp 194, trans temp 145, no more turbo timer, cools to 350* instantly. I know I have more power, better spool, no bucking, stalling, coughing, I can't say enough. It no longer feels it is holding back, ( got rid of that potato in the tail pipe feel). You don't need to worry about the turbo plugging up. The truck is not, I repeat not louder. I have an aftermarket air intake, and can hear a slight turbo whine, not loud, but cool.

All I can say, if you do it you will never go back!!!!! It is night and day comparison, and you will not trade or give up on your truck again. I have own 5 diesels before, 99, 01, 03, 04, & 05 and this is by far is the best running of them all with this simple mod. I can honesly say, I have never had a warranty issue on my other trucks, that I couldn't fix myself. All of my warranty items on the other trucks were not engine or drive train issues.
With only 6700 miles on this truck, I'm not worried about warranty. If the A/C goes out, the door falls off, the rear end bearings goes out, or the trans mission falls out, Dodge will have to warrant it anyway. Fortunally, my other dealer knows what is missing did not cause unrelated items to fail.

HeberRam, thanks for the info. That's great to hear that it doesn't smoke much, I love the idea of the stealth install. Do you have a straight pipe now where the DPF and Cat used to be or did you put a different cat in?

Anyone know if my edge insight can be set to clear DTCs at start-up. I'm going to have to figure something out. Yesterday I got a turbo no pressure code P2262, dealer is turning out to be useless, so I'm taking care of this stuff myself anyways, what have I got to lose but the headaches of the stealership. Today, I changed my oil and 15 litres came out when I know I put the 12 litres in last time. That's 25% more volume, whether it be fuel, soot or whatever is in the oil. I sent off a batch to be analyzed, so we'll see what it is. I love the truck, but this emissions stuff has to go. Pumping soot into the intake is a stupid idea IMHO.

Can someone explain how the turbo will not stick and have problems with the DPF and EGR kit? It seems that since the variable geometry parts are in the exhaust stream they would soot up anyways?

Question

Coalsmoke, the P2262 code is an indication that the turbo is plugging up. It needs to be cleaned by the dealer (under warranty) and I don't know if they still replace them if that fails? I do have a straight pipe with a o2 sensor bung that is part of the H & S kit. It does replace both the cat and dpf. As far as the question regarding once you delete the Egr valve how does the turbo stay clean? Well, you now are pushing clean air through the intake, and not by-passing it through the Egr valve and re-gen system. In addition, you need to disconnect the 3/4" pcv line that goes into the front of the turbo. I simply capped the end of the 3/4" nipple on the rubber boot that attaches to the front of the turbo, and replaced the 3/4" hose with a longer one coming from the egr valve and tucked it to dump along the fender well. Why they designed these turbos to be kitchen garbage disposals is beyond me. You might as well not have an air filter. What pluggs these turbos is all the soot from the recycling of it through the intake, through the Egr valve, re-generation process and the backing up of the cat and dpf. These turbos are variable vane and when they get too much soot the vanes can't operate and slide properly. Once the deletes are done you should not have anymore problems with these turbos as clean air coming in is then burned with the fuel and exited directly through the exhaust side of the turbo through a straight flowing exhaust pipe.

Thanks for the reply, but I still don't see how it would make a difference. The turbos are fixed vane, but they do have a sliding gate (Holset calls it a nozzle ring). What I don't understand is how the soot that has been re-burned because of the EGR system is going to plug the sliding gate up any worse than the soot already coming out of the exhaust manifold?

The best way I know how to describe it is the soot is held in captivity by the re-generation process longer in the engine, until the next re-generation, etc. This causes an accumalative effect on everything including the turbo. Just look at the tail pipe of a properly operating new truck (no soot clean) and an older 5.9.

Maybe that's what's going on. Thanks for the comments, at the end of the day if it works, it works. How it happens is less important.

I have just arrived back in Tennessee after the long tow mentioned above. We traveled 6,634 miles to Nova Scotia and back. Almost all of the mileage was towing my 32' Cameo fifth wheel, around 14,000 pounds. Engine ran and performed flawlessly. No codes, no blips, just a sweet pulling experience. My one complaint was the rough shifting, both up and down, while in Tow/Haul with the exhaust brake engaged. Taking it out of Tow/Haul dramatically improved this condition.

My mileage averaged 11 mpg while towing, about the same as with my old '97. Certainly acceptable considering the increase in power and torque.

I talked to the dealer and he fully expects that the P2262 will come back after a few months of "everyday driving." I guess that every time I get the code, I need to throw the wife in the truck and hook up the trailer for a long haul. Probably a good idea for us as well as the truck.
