There is a supersedence file attached to each flash. They only allow a same or newer flash, and a flash that supersedes a flash of the same type with an earlier "nic" (AX, AY. AZ). It is built into the flash so it can't be altered. Emissions legal stuff I suppose.

I am going to pull the trigger on the $750.00 dollar one of these. Heard lots of great results.

In ordinary laymen's language a computer "reflash" erases all or a portion of the original (previous) program as it writes in the new program.

I think (am not absolutely certain) it is not possible to reload the previous program because dealer service departments don't have the capability or a copy of the program.

Harvey I beleive that you are correct. Dealers do not have access to just pick a file and download it. They need VIN's and a connection to the truck. Some of the older devices downloaded the program to the Starscan tool but you could not save it later to a file from there.

Also Sag2 is correct, in C++ you code the files so updates look for specifics before it will write the new program. If you do not have the current calibration it will require installation of the previous programs needed as it will not skip. This is also because the new updates do not have all the old or previous updates in its program. Think of each of these as a Windows individual update but they are not service pak's that contain every update from before.

I don't think you are missing anything. Some choose to modify their trucks and take their risks with full awareness and understanding that they are their own warranty station if anything goes wrong. This is every owner's right if he accepts full responsibility.

However, from time to time we have a member post here who has heavily modified his truck, experienced a major failure, then cries, complains, postures, and threatens legal action ranting angrily about how the evil dealership and Dodge won't repair his truck under warranty after he destroyed it. These are the ones I have a problem with.

The software can be saved in the starscan, but you can not go backwards like sag2 said

I have about 95,000 miles on my truck and I did the full delete package at about 40,000 miles knowing full well what the consequences were. That said knock on wood, I have not had a problem that me and my buddies could not fix. All problems were egr related. On a side not the local dealer won't even let me pull my truck in their drive. Not that I want to use them anyways.
