temp of fuel
Hello Mark
The fuel temp I am not sure this is the next thing to do gauges looking at S.P.A.Gauges pyro/boost- fuel pres /fuel line temp - front tank temp/ rear tank temp - trans temp/ rear end temp thinking about rail pres and front end temp not sure about the last set, there goes a load of money. The fuel in the tank is the out side temp i just put it in then took the temps to day its 74 degs, The fuel line at the pump is 97 degs out of the pump
the coolant lines in are 157 and going back are 137
the hose at the ip pump is 97 and the fitting is at 127
the ip pump is running at 137 and the rail is at 147
with the injectors fittings at 149 degs these are when the engine is at 200 degs and all done with a hand held laser thermometer
I checked with the boys at Cummins today and they thought the temps were ok the only thing they would like to see is the flash point of the fuel tested, I would like that also but I just don't have the money right now. I will get this tested as soon as I get some and before I get gauges.
hope this helps

fuel report
Hello All
The 04 truck is running great the new lift pump/fuel heater/ fuel filter is running great . Small trip this weekend to trailer a old jeep pickup for a friend fuel mileage 16 mpg running 80 mph only 140 miles round trip engine has all the power back now that the fuel is heated.
The 05 is running great the only thing on it is it does not like the fuel at 100% will be blending in 25% #2 today to see if this helps the problem is the starting in the am even with it pluged in it has a hard time starting, will try this blend to see if this helps.
I did get two new places to get oil last week so things are looking good on the oil front I have plenty to run both trucks.
Thanks for reading

CJ,
This is all very good information. I very much appreciate you taking the time to tell all of us of your experiences, I for one feel as if they have helped me in my decision making. I just ordered the starter kit the other day and I am very excited about getting started. I am so tired of paying $3 or more for fuel that is a by-product of making unleaded gas. Again thanks for all the info.
Questions for you though. What make and model number FASS system did you install in yours? And are you any closer to putting that starter package together that you were talking about?
Thanks,
Jay

fuel
Hello All
I mixed in 11 gallons of #2 on Sunday and the 05 is running great this is about 33 % of the total fuel supply on that truck.
I called Bob Wagner of Wagner and Assoc to talk about the third event in the fueling of the 05 they can turn off the third event but the engine loss of 100
+hp and higher EGT temps is found at that point, but they are looking in to moving the event this will take time. we also talked about running the 04 ECM on the 05 he is looking in to that for me, thanks for your help Bob
The 04 is running great also its running the blend at 100% and running great after the install of the f.a.s.s. filter/pump.Working on the heating, mixing and filtering units this is about done should be done by the first of next month. I will keep this updated as I get closer to the finish.
THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

CJ I just sat down and read this entire thread for the first time. Your information is very helpful and I appreciate how you've continually shared your experience. Please keep it up!
I have been running WVO mix in my '96 and '98 12-valve. The highest I have gone is almost 50%, but I need to work on refining my process, and doing better to ensure it is filtered good and 100% free of moisture content.
I am going to check into the isopropyl alcohol idea. The thought of putting alcohol in the fuel concerns me a bit, but if it helps the waxy hydrogenated content in some of the oil I have I'm willing to try it. Some of the oil I have is clear liquid above 60 degrees, but starts to cloud and solidify below that.
I have a fuel heater I plan to install on my '98. On my '96 I installed 1/2" ID fuel line all the way from the tank, which has helped fuel pressure considerably. When increasing the WVO percentage, the viscosity increases and makes it harder to draw through the stock line. The 1/2" line helped quite a bit, so I'll probably do the same mod to my '98.
After burning quite a bit of WVO in the '96 I pulled the head. No buildup on the pistons at all, they only had a light soot coating in the bowl and outer piston surfaces. That's despite the fact the '96 doesn't burn WVO nearly as well as my '98, probably because it has almost 400,000 miles on it (it stinks like cool combustion, whereas the '98 burns clean), so it's comforting to see this.
What kind of exhaust odor does your '04 have when fired up in the AM, and how does it smell at operating temp? When I have 50% WVO in the '96 it smells a bit like fryer oil, but at operating temp there is very little odor of any sort. Doesn't smell that much like a diesel, doesn't smell much like burning veggie oil either. . . hard to describe.

Hello Vaughn
The truck smells like a 15 min old BBQ just after you light it after you run it and get it all warmed up then it smells like what ever they cooked in it sometimes it smells like chicken other times it smells like french fryes, tacos, garlic.all in all it smells good .
You said that the IPA may help with the hydrognated oil you some times get
does this mean that you are using that type of oil in your blend. or are you thinking about using it.
The filtering and getting the water out is the most important part of this whole process what are you doing to your oil for filtering/water.
Heating of the tank is next on my list to do this will help with the winter problems
Thank's for reading

CJ, I have mixed in some of the thicker stuff and have been OK. Not too much at a time. . . heating it good then mixing with diesel makes it stay liquid to a cooler temp, and using the DSE helped it stay liquified until colder temps. So yes I have been using this but not readily. The 12-valve is more forgiving for filter restriction since the lift pump runs at high pressure. Haven't had any plugged filter problems.
I have a turkey fryer I use for heating. I get it to 180F or so, and if it has moisture it will make a bit of steam, and/or start to crackle since water settles to the bottom. If it crackles I dump it and don't use it. It's not very often it has enough moisture to crackle. If not I keep it hot for 20-30 minutes to be sure. Filtering is nothing fancy, just running it through 4-5 layers of fine cloth. The good thing about veggie oil is there isn't much concern with abrasives, since it's not coming out of machinery, and most of the contamination is what falls off the food being cooked (filters out easily).
I do want to get the beads that take moisture out, because I feel that's what I need to improve on the most.
Vaughn

weekend
Hello All
Went oil hunting this weekend and got 100 gallons in three stops not to bad will be picking up another 100 gallons this week from three other places
the trucks are running great the 04 is still running at 100% blend the 05 is at 66% blend the temp's are running mid 40's at night to high to mid 70's daytime temp's
The new units are close to being done, I will post pictures of them later this week.
Thanks for the info vaughn, I sent you a pm today.
Coming up on the first year of using this blend fuel I have learned allot of things about this type of fuel and have tryed new ways of filtering used oil the best thing about this is that I have found out for my self that this works and that if other people say it will not work they have not tryed it !!! I am looking at trying this fuel in different trucks, cars , engines of all makes .
Thank you all for reading this this last year the posting on this will not end, and I hope to get more people using this type of blend fuel.
I Started blending fuel on Oct 1 of last year it took me a month to get it in my truck I was kinda scared to put it in ,but I did and the rest is history.
THANK YOU
cj hall

New filtering system
Hello to all
I have the first system's done and have pictures of it but the pictures were taken last night and it shows.
Well be posting better ones this weekend.
I will be posting under the new products also with more info on them.
I am thinking that the filtering system will be great for either blend fuel and for cleaning up all used veg oil(greasecar twin tank oil) and it might be good for ATF and used engine oil also. (I will be trying this at a later date)
One unit is a heating unit the other is a mixing /filtering unit
The other unit is a heating / mixing/ filtering unit all in one.
for the Blenders I would go with the two unit system this keeps the unfilterd oil and the blend fuel away from each other the system that heats/filters would be best for The twin tank style of cleaning the oil. but both systems will work for each type of fuel. also these units can be rolled out side for filling of the trucks or cars and can be expanded for making more fuel if need be they will make 45 gallons at a time.

cj hall,
I just want to extend a hearty thank you for maintaining this thread and your passion for your project. I've been running commercial B20 for several months except the rare occasion when I can get straight Bio. I've taken to studying the subject in hopes of someday making my own. While I prefer Bio over other non-petrol fuels, your project is an inspiration and your continuing report is an education.
Sincerely,
Neil Winnemore

CJ, that looks really Professional.
Are the silicon band heaters efficient? Would immersion heaters would be better?
