hello
the truck (05) is getting 17.5 mpg at 80 mph with a 45 mph head wind
I think that good it only has 4000 miles on it and 25% WVO in the tank
it smokes really bad with more then that in the tank I think its the cat( 3/4 tons have cats 1 tons don't) o-well
longer road trip is going to happen but I don't have the fuel I need to make the trip so I will be leaving on WVO but not using it all the way there and back.
I will post till the day I leave.
thanks for looking

I've heard a lot of hemming and hawing about WVO and the common rail fuel system. It sounds like your is doing very well. 17.5 bucking over 100MPH wind thats excellent. I would like to see calm numbers

CJ,

I was reading a research document (some university) today that detailed how multiple manufacturers had studied both WVO and WVO/#2 mixed and found serious problems with injectors fouling when used in direct injection systems (like ours).

It would help a lot of us (and you I'd think) if you could periodically pull an injector or two for inspection.

The failure mechanism seems to be related to the higher viscosity (thicker) oil and how it affects the injector's spray pattern - the poorer pattern causing unburned fuel and therefore soot buildup in and around the nozzles.

If yours remain clean, it would really vindicate DSE's claims to improve the fuel's ability to be sprayed into the cylinder with a reasonably good pattern. And give you (and those considering following in your footsteps) some peace of mind when considering the cost of engine repairs...

?Thanks!

Mark

injector's

Mark
I plan on pulling one or two of them as soon as I can. need to find a person willing to do it.have not found that person yet but I am sure there out there.

The other thing i would like to try is some injectors made for WVO or at least flowed for WVO. maybe some one out there has some ideas I am willing to try.
The study and papers all come from schools that need money from big corps and the govt to run their schools. Think that could be a bad mixture of (if you tell them this we will give you this much) i am not saying their doing that but !!!
We all need to find out if this will work if we sit around till the big oil companys tell us it's ok, then we try, thats a little to late do you want to buy your oil from them and make them even richer i think not . i want to buy my fuel from a farmer some one i can go and talk to.we cant grow enuff plants to fuel this country this will not replace crude oil this is just a way to fuel a new way of thinking.
sorry about the rant

if unburned fuel in the combustion chamber is there would it not wash the cylinder walls and mix in with the oil like gas/alky motors do if you run them to rich (seen a few gallons of motor oil from a 500 ci hemi tractor puller very milky looking and very smelly )
just changed the oil after the first test in my truck very clean oil after 3000 miles granted not at all the miles were with this fuel I have made about 250 gallons of fuel so far have given away about 40 gallons and used the rest mostly in my 04 but i would think if that was happening i would see it in the crankcase oil
like my 05 truck I have been told that there is a 3rd event in the injector fuelling that cools the combustion chamber for the epa standards we must use anyway i looked at my oil and the dipstick is black looks like it been run 10000 miles no only 600 since the last change i think its over fueling and washing the cylinder walls but the dodge dealer says all 05 do this to the oil its a white truck you should see the soot on the side of the truck will pull a sample of the oil and send it to a lab to get it tested if it comes back saying that there fuel in the oil their getting that truck back . the motor will not last very long with that happing
the 04 with clean oil after 3000 miles and no smoke at all with no soot in the tail pipe its doing ok
sorry for the rant I just think we all need to try some things some time or we will be sitting around telling are greatgrand kids I remember when diesel fuel was 3 dollars a gallon

CJ,

I understand motives - but I'm not worried about that. I heard this phrase somewhere: "Trust, but verify". There is a lot at stake here, so regular inspection will either confirm it's working well for you, or save you a lot of money and trouble. Both are worthwhile and will benefit us all.

Also, by the way, my 04.5 is as black as you mention after 500 miles. I've heard they all do that (and mine was on dino-diesel only). I think the third event is responsible, so I don't expect you'll find problems during oil testing.

Lastly, I'm elsewhere but when I get back to my main PC I'll post a link to the study. The one above is good reading, but not the one I was thinking of.

Good luck!

Mark
