3rd gen Automatic Trans Filter & Fluid Change

Here is a tip that I find works pretty well-

1) Remove the cooler line going into the rear of the transmission and slip a piece of heater hose onto it and then into a 5 gal bucket, place the bucket by the drivers door, set the park brake and start it up in neutral. Watch the flow and shut the engine off when you see it start to spit air with fluid.

2) Now the pan is extra low on fluid so its more easy to remove for filter change without such a big mess.

3) Once the the filter is changed and the pan has been resealed using the oem reusable gasket you can add 4 quarts of ATF+4 and then repeat step 1 by starting the engine and watching for the spit of air with fluid, shut it off and add 4 quarts, do this two more time so your bucket has been pumped into 4 times from when you first disconnected the line.

4) Re attach the line, add 3 quarts, start the engine again and top up as needed.
