Alcan 5000 Road Rally
I just wanted to get the word out that if anyone is interested in doing an adventure ride using either their truck or a motorcycle, there even has been a class A motor home one year, there is an event called the Alcan 5000 Road Rally . The next scheduled run is August of 2006 and then February 2008. The event is broken down into two types of sections, transits and TSD’s. The transit sections are just what the name implies, transiting from one point to the next with a reasonable amount of time to complete it. The TSD sections are where the skills of the driver and navigator for the vehicles and the rider for the bikes come in because you have to follow a set of directions that will guide you through a course that is timed, speeds will not exceed the posted limits of the area. The timing is done be the officials at points that are not marked in the competitors route books, here is a sample route . Penalty points are accrued for each second that you are early or late to the timing points. I’ve worked the last three events as an official and the groups of people that do these events turn out to be great groups to do these with. The one last August was all motorcycles If you’re thinking of doing the winter event in 2008 I would suggest maybe doing the summer event in 2006 so that you can get a feel of what it is like doing this kind of an event. There are also a number of article that have been written about the events that have links to them on the home page.
