Question Tired of hearing how good the furds are!

I have never pulled or raced but am considering putting my truck in the local fair and pulling against them chebies and furds with my 97. If nothing else to get my Dad to put up or be quiet about how good his F-150 is. They have a dirt track and pull a transfer sled that is also used for the farm tractor pulls. Last year max pull was 300 yds so you don't get to go far. Also the dirt gets compacted as the day goes by but of course where most of the trucks spin out it is not as hard. This results in most trucks getting some hopping started as they go over this soft area. The heavy trucks pull last in the event schedule. My 97 has an South Bend Con O 13" conversion clutch with the NV 5600 tranny and I have Michelin LT 265-75R-16 LR E tires with near new tread. If I were to attempt this what gear and would you start with the transfer case in 4HI or 4LO? The winning truck last year was a 69 chevy 3/4 ton that had been stripped down. The driver was nearly red flagged as she built up a lot of speed and was out of control for a good part of her pull. Still got the blue ribbon though. I did not get to stay for the >7500 lb class. This truck pull is for stock trucks so I won't be running against anything to outrageous, but you never know. So what do you guys think? Will I just embarrass my self?
