sled pulling vs. drag racing

Hey guys, was wondering, as I slooooowly piece this truck together, do most of you all build your engine with either pulling or racing in mind, or is it just a matter of building sheer hp and torque? Is it possible to build a truck that can pull well AND run respectble times? What are the differences in the method/design of a hard core sled puller and a drag racing truck?
