2nd gen Turbonetics setup on my mega cab

I finally got the new turbo setup on the mega cab last weekend... stainless header, 66/68-.84 turbo

gotta love all that room... V8 boys eat your heart out!

used studs and nuts on top and factory exhaust manifold bolts/spacers on bottom

there was a lot of AC line bending!

I was HOPING/TRYING to not have to break out the welder... partly because I was hungover and that thing's heavy, but also because I was hoping I could put together a little "how-to bolt-together setup" for people wanting to do the same swap, but I had to cut and weld

I used a 90* elbow from Cummins and a 2nd gen cold pipe. cut a straight section out of the 3rd gen cold pipe and welded it to the 2nd gen pipe. could have just used a straight section of 3" exhaust pipe, but I wanted the factory little rolled bead portion... and I didn't have any 3" exhaust pipe handy or a parts runner vehicle

I shot the cold pipe w/ gloss black after I built it

I didn't have gauges on the truck before the install... was running the Smarty TNT on level 7 w/ all defaults. it was a tire frier w/ the little stocker. no idea what kind of boost or EGT's, but I'm assuming both were pretty high? please feel free to chime in with similar combo boost/egt numbers so I can compare?

anyhow, I buttoned it up and took it for a drive. considerable lag compared to the stocker (certainly expected that) felt kinda soggy and maybe even felt slower on the big end? so I installed the gauges and loaded up TNT 9 on defaults.

a little SOP improvement on level 9 vs 7.

combo is only making 35psi of boost, but the highest EGT I've seen on a full out run through the gears is 1300*. Pretty clean out the tailpipe at WOT, and the power is deceptive. Before the truck felt slow because the turbo doesn't really smack, but 3000 in OD comes up a lot quicker than it did before! (that's usually the point where I'm like "OK, this is fast enough on a public road" and back out)

I ordered a .70 housing to try to help spool-up and will be doing before/after drive pressure readings.

I installed an MP-8 earlier... definately feels better with ~1/4 turn on the knob on the big end, but spool isn't that much better. I meant to take the RP on the Smarty back to stock, but I set it at level 1 (which is the default level! DOH!) I want to try just using the MP8 for rail increase

the truck is less fun while battling through Houston commuter traffic as it doesn't have that instant smack to get around people, but the SOUND this thing makes almost makes up for it, and like I said, I really feel that it's definately charging harder on the big end...

I'm gonna try the smaller housing... I'd like to have a decent responding truck that won't go over 1400* (at sea level) I'm witholding final judgement till I play with it some more.

I feel like the Borg Warner S300's are still the best performing turbos for our trucks, but I wanted to try something different, and I really wanted to hear that 6 blade compressor

I've got my old faithful sps62 on the shelf just in case this thing doesn't do everything I want/need it to
