4bt intercooler

I was wondering how big of an intercooler I should use on my 4bt swap. I've got a first gen I was thinking of having narrowed so it fits my rad opening. So it would be stock height, stock thickness, but instead of 37" wide, it would be 27" wide. Would that work O.K.? Any suggestions? Thanks.
