Will a 05 Cummins work with a ford 4r100 auto transmission?
Can you feasibly install a cummins into a ford F250 or excursion and use the ford tranny? My Ford buddy seems to think they are pretty tough, however the cummins makes way more torque down low in the rpm range. It would need to support an 05 cummins with an edge juice/attitude combo. If it's possible, what components would be needed and how expensive are they? Here's a list I put together from info I've ran across here and elsewhere on the web.
special Adapter ?? $500
special flexplate ?? $400
different torque convertor ?? $1300
better valve body ?? $300
trans controller? or could the ford cpu still control it with a dodge engine? $$$
Also, if this engine swap was done, would it be necessary to move the trans back for more room or could you leave it in the factory location and not have to modify the driveshaft lengths?
Maybe it would make more sense to sell the ford unit and buy a built dodge trans, but then you need to purchase a transfer case too or adapt to the ford one...
Thanks for any info...
