Swapping a Cummins & the EPA?
How have those who have done a conversion addressed this potential show stopper? I've read where a 4bt was swapped into a '91 Wrangler and a '91 Dakota. I have a 88 Dakota which is crying for a replacement for its V6. Putting a 4bt in there would be a great project, but I can't imagine the EPA giving a green light to it. To drive a converted vehicle on public roads in N. Va. unfortunately I would have to get their "blessing".
I know that if one stays with a gas engine, as long as the new powerplant is of the same, or newer emmisions year as the target vehicle, you are usually OK. Diesels are a different animal, particularly when the subject engine has never appeared in a light duty configuration in this country.
