cummins I.D.

i have a farmer that i deliever fuel to that parts out alot of garbage trucks, fire trucks,tractors and such and he says he has a couple of cummins sitting around that are the same as in our pickups but are out of trucks, so what i.d. numbers do i need to look for to make sure and are all the bell housings the same as some of his trucks had auto.'s and 7/9 speeds.
