47RE In An Old Truck??

Has anyone accomplished such a task?
I have one ready to go in & I'm hoping someone here has done it & can enlighten me as to what electronic nightmares I have in store for me

There is a fellow I've heard about that has done it so I know it's possible, I just don't know what was involved to make it happen.
Is it possible to make this transmission shift without modern gauges etc?
